WILDERNESS SURVIVAL COURSE
The Wilderness Survival Course has been developed by a veteran Army medic, ASHI Instructor and AHA Instructor to help meet the standards of excellence and dedication expected of the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts of America while preparing its students to provide basic, life-saving remote emergency medical care. Modeled after the Army's Department of Combat Medic Training ideology, this course first gives students the knowledge and understanding needed in a classroom environment and then engages its students in "real world" scenarios and simulations where they are asked to apply their skills and knowledge.

During this course students will be given instruction and practice in the following areas:

  • CPR and AED for Adults, Children and Infants
  • Foreign Body Airway Obstruction (Choking) Relief in Adults, Children and Infants (Conscious and Unconscious)
  • Standard First Aid (Medical and Traumatic Emergencies)
  • Wilderness First Aid and Survival

Students in this course are expected to work together as a team to complete tasks and training scenarios.

At the end of this course, students will be officially certified in the following areas:

  • American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR and AED
  • American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid
  • American Safety and Health Institute Wilderness First Aid

This course has been designed to be taught in either three separate sessions or as one continuous "all day" session.
Each course session is three hours in length. The first two hours are classroom/didactic instruction and practice. The third hour of each session is devoted to simulations and scenarios in which students are asked to work together as a team to apply their classroom training to a real world situation.
