EMS AWARENESS SCHOOL PROGRAMS AVAILABLE
Currently, we offer two primary/elementary school awareness programs to familiarize students with 9-1-1 and the field of Emergency Medical Services. The two programs are age-appropriately designed and meet standards and expectations set forth by the Center for Emergency Medical Services for Children and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians.
Both programs are hands-on and interactive, using audio-visual presentations and audience participation to teach key concepts about when to use 9-1-1 and what children can do in the event of an emergency.
In addition, students have the chance to participate in backboard immobilizations, ride on our automated stretchers and Stryker stair chairs and see what it feels like to wear an oxygen mask.
To culminate the program, students are given a tour of the interior of our ambulance and incident command vehicle, capable of handling mass casualty incidents. (45 minute programs)

This course is designed to teach both adult and pediatric (infant/child) lay rescuer CPR to middle or high school students. The course presents information about the AHA adult Chain of Survival and signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, and choking adults. The course also includes information about healthy heart living and actions to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in adults. The course also provides information about the AHA infant & child Chain of Survival, signs of choking in infants & children, prevention of sudden infant death syndrome, and prevention of the most common fatal injuries in infants and children. It teaches rescuers skills in CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO).
The AHA developed the curriculum for Heartsaver CPR in Schools to achieve one ultimate objective: to increase survival from cardiac arrest by increasing the number of rescuers prepared to phone 911 and provide early CPR.
