CPR: WHY IT MATTERS

Each day in the United States of America, 1,000 people die from cardiac arrest, an event in which the heart stops pumping blood (and life-preserving oxygen) to the rest of the body, causing irreversible brain death in as little as 10 minutes.  That accounts for one death every 2 minutes.
It is estimated that 95% of all cardiac arrest victims die before reaching a hospital in the absence of quality CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) initiated as soon after the arrest as possible by either a bystander or EMS professional.
The national response time for an ambulance in the United States (on average) is 15 minutes due to the increasing demand being placed on EMS professionals each year by an ever-increasing population. This startling statistic has placed an increasingly important need for the general population to learn effective, quality CPR to help preserve the life of cardiac arrest victims.
With every minute without CPR following a cardiac arrest, the probability of survival is reduced by up to 10% per minute. When quality CPR is initiated by a bystander immediately following cardiac arrest, the patient stands a better chance of survival, as the probability of survival reduces to 3-4% per minute Effective bystander CPR can increase the cardiac arrest patient's chances of survival 2-3 times that compared to no bystander CPR.

It is estimated that approximately 1 out of every 6 people in the United States will be in a position at some point in their lives  in which they will experience someone they know or love suffering from a heart attack or, worse, form cardiac arrest. Will you know what to do?

This course is designed for adolescents who want an edge in the babysitting world and prepares them to be more proficient and prepared childcare providers.
